The power of imagination

This is an archived event from the 2015 Programme.

The very special Long Nose Puppets bring Flyaway Katie to Little Missenden. This inspiring flight of fancy on the power of imagination is based on the popular children’s book by co-founder Polly Dunbar.

Katie is all alone and feeling grey. The birds in the picture on her wall look so colourful – if only Katie could be as bright as them, who knows what might happen?

The show bursts with colour, movement and surprises. Puppets act out the story – ranging from handheld rod puppets to full body costumes, brought to life by hugely talented puppeteers. Long Nose make their enchanting puppets out of anything and everything – latex, wood, socks, old umbrellas and the odd lampshade.

“The kids were captivated and the opportunity to meet the puppets at the end was enthusiastically taken up. This is the perfect show for children – colourful and imaginative without being too long” (Brighton Argus)

“Parents are as transfixed as their children” (Richard Dyball, The Times)

This brilliant show is aimed at 2-7 year olds, and lasts about an hour – including 15 minutes ‘meeting the puppets’.

Long Nose, a Brighton-based children’s theatre company, creates inspiring, inventive and colourful puppet shows for the very young.

Katherine Morton and Polly Dunbar co-founded the ensemble in 2006, having studied illustration at Brighton University where they worked together creating characters and stories. Music is by Tom Gray of the band Gomez, who also co-composed the music for the CBeebies series based on Polly’s books, Tilly and Friends.
