Little Missenden Festival 2021

©Robert Piwko ©Clive Barda Our Patron David Matthews, one of Britain’s leading composers, has a 30-year association with Little Missenden and we’re delighted to have him as our Patron. Nineteen of his works, some commissioned for the Festival, have been performed in the Church, including the 2018 premiere of his Sonatina for Viola and Piano op141 . “Some time ago I described Little Missenden as ‘England’s best-kept secret festival’, and that still seems to sum it up rather well. Every year there are unusual concerts of a very high standard played to discerning and highly appreciative audiences, who are not afraid of contemporary music”. Our work in Schools The Little Missenden Festival runs music workshops with pupils from Hyde Heath and Little Missenden Infant Schools, and Great Missenden Combined School. Professional musicians help and encourage the children to develop their musical ideas, and assist them in creating their own original songs, which are then performed to parents at a combined concert. This year the concert had to be omitted, but the workshops continued. As always, the children enjoyed these musical experiences enormously. They also gain confidence, develop their creativity, and improve their concentration, communication and literacy. The Festival organises this programme and provides most of the funding, though we’re very grateful for additional contributions which the Schools’ PTAs are able to provide.
