Music by and for children

This is an archived event from the 2011 programme.

Janet Davey workshop leader/piano, Kuljit Bhamra workshop leader/tabla, Children from all three schools vocals and instruments

These concerts display music and other creative work developed with and by children from Little Missenden, Hyde Heath and Prestwood Infants Schools in workshops led by Janet Davey and Kuljit Bhamra (supported by school staff).

SongTrees links children with their families and communities through musical memory and song, exploring the childhood musical experiences of their parents and grandparents as:

There will be a lively exploration of the Indian New Year (Festival of Lights), involving storytelling, songs and chants (some traditional, some specially created by Jan and Kuljit). They will draw on the children’s ideas to create a piece using both Indian and Western instruments.

These Festival-funded workshops benefit children, families and teachers and tie in with the wider curriculum. Children enjoy and get confidence in their own music-making and creativity.

Janet Davey is an award-winning composer, radio programme-maker and broadcaster who has worked with local schoolchildren on the Festival’s behalf for nine years.

Kuljit Bhamra is an inspiring and influential musician – virtuosic instrumentalist, skilled improviser/composer, and a lively facilitator and communicator. He also appears in Event 8.
