Music by and for children

This is an archived event from the 2012 programme.

Janet Davey workshop leader/piano;  Mark Armstrong workshop leader/trumpet;  Children from three schools vocals and instruments

Mark Armstrong and Jan Davey present ‘Sounds Sensational’, three concerts that display to parents, staff and others the music and other creative work developed with and by children from Little Missenden, Hyde Heath and Prestwood Infants Schools.

About 250 4-6yr olds will be involved in this exciting and challenging project, which will be based on workshops in the schools – normally five sessions per school.  These will be led by Jan and Mark (supported by school staff).

The two workshop leaders will help the children to explore the essential building blocks of music, drawing out the young people’s own ideas and enabling them to create original musical compositions and develop pieces to perform.

These Festival-funded workshops benefit children, families and teachers and tie in with the wider curriculum.  Children enjoy and get confidence in their own music-making and creativity.

Janet Davey now celebrates her 10th year of working with local schools on the Festival’s behalf.  Jan is an award-winning composer, radio programme-maker and broadcaster.

Mark Armstrong is a celebrated jazz trumpeter and composer (who’s playing with Stan Tracey at the Festival this evening), and is also Jazz Professor at the Royal College of Music.

Both Jan and Mark are experienced in (and enthusiastic about) working with children and bringing out their hidden musicality.
