We’re delighted to welcome Zoe Rahman back to the festival. Zoe has previously appeared in a duo with her brother Idris, and with Clark Tracey’s Quintet. This year’s jazz event features her piano trio with two renowned collaborators: from New York drummer Gene Calderazzo, and the British bassist Alec Dankworth.

Programme notes can be downloaded here.

Zoe Rahman is a vibrant jazz pianist and composer who brings both her classical background and her British/Bengali heritage into her music. She has won a number of awards, including a MOBO for Best Jazz Act in 2012 and a British Jazz Award for piano in 2016. Her playing has been described as ‘mesmeric’ and using ‘musical improvisation to express the inexpressible’ and she is joined by two of the best rhythm section players on the current scene.

Gene Calderazzo
(drums) is currently based in Britain where he is visiting tutor at several of the leading conservatoires. He has been the drummer for the band Partisans for over 20 years and has worked with a huge number of leading jazz players.

Alec Dankworth (bass) is an award-winning player and composer known for his energetic stage presence and versatility of style. Alec has worked with an amazing list of both British and International artists in addition to leading several groups of his own.
