Advent is a time of mystery, reflection and wonder. In this programme, The Gesualdo Six will take us on a magical musical journey through the ages and across borders, weaving well-known Christmas carols seamlessly into highlights from the 21st century, including Jonathan Harvey’s poignant The Annunciation. The programme is eclectic, adding an international flavour to our Christmas celebrations and testifying to the universal nature of this special time of year.
The Gesualdo Six is an award-winning British vocal ensemble comprising some of the UK’s finest consort singers, directed by Owain Park. Praised for their imaginative programming and impeccable blend, the ensemble formed in 2014 for a performance of Gesualdo’s Tenebrae Responsories in Cambridge and has gone on to perform at numerous major festivals across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia. They’ve been to Little Missenden twice before, in 2016 and 2019, and delighted us on both occasions.
“Ingeniously programmed and impeccably delivered, with that undefinable excitement that comes from a group of musicians working absolutely as one” Gramophone
