Nikki Iles piano  Tina May vocals  Dave Green bass  Steve Brown drums

Nikki Iles is one of the UK’s foremost jazz pianists and composers. Her sensitive yet swinging playing provides the perfect foil for the vocal talents of Tina May, renowned for her interpretations of the great jazz repertoire to which she often adds Francophile lyricism and a cinematic European twist.

“Iles is one of the most refreshing and promising figures to have emerged in the UK in recent times, with a liquid sound and supple, obliquely resolved phrasing as an improviser” (Guardian)

“There is a lot of very routine jazz singing out there these days, but this definitely does not fall into that category. … Tina May remains the most expressive and technically gifted jazz singer on the UK scene” (Kenny Mathieson, Scotsman)

They’re supported by the “dream team” of Dave Green (bass) and Steve Brown (drums).

The programme will include American Songbook favourites and less well-known “Off Broadway” songs by composer Yip Harburg (The Wizard of Oz) as well as material from Tina’s critically-acclaimed collaboration with Italian pianist Enrico Pieranunzi.

Tina May and Nikki Iles have a very special musical relationship since they began working together (and cut their first CD) in the 90s. Both at the top of their professions, they have unusually close understanding, responding to each other and creating magic in the moment.

Versatile bass player Dave Green was for many years a member of Humphrey Lyttleton’s Band. He worked with Stan Tracey, Don Rendell, Ian Carr and many other British and American jazz artists – and led his own group ‘Fingers’.

Drummer Steve Brown is a member of the Scott Hamilton Quartet. A favourite of jazz musicians and audiences alike, he’s worked with many UK and international artists.
